No kink at the starting line, eh? That should be fun.

    Yeesssssss. So excited!

I wonder how straight you can make that penultimate kink after the curvy straight and before the finish. Looks like you can’t quite thread it like you were able to in AX3.

I test drove an i3 back when Peter Pan had them for a bit in San Mateo/Belmont.

I’ll echo Andy in saying that the steering was extremely responsive, on the verge of being twitchy. That might just be a combination of the short wheelbase and somewhat high up driving position.

I’ve never driven an EV before but the acceleration was impressive up to highway speeds. Probably similar to an E36 M3 but with an even smoother and more linear power delivery. I had a lot of fun pushing the go pedal.

What was a little weird was letting go of the go pedal. The survey they had me fill out after the test drive asked how I felt about “the one pedal driving experience”. I’m guessing BMW tried to design the drivetrain such that unless you’re in an emergency situation you won’t really have to use the brakes.

Before you completely come off the accelerator you can already feel the car slowing down. Take your foot completely off and the car is braking moderately hard. Definitely enough to get you to a complete stop before you hit the red light up ahead.

It took some getting used to but I imagine it helps to extend the range. A little EV like this is truly a momentum car. Wasting energy to heating the brakes and rotors is the last thing you want to do.

Not at all the type of car I would ever buy. But I had a blast driving it.

Fourth place behind Ronan and the Kolesars? I am A-OK with these provisional results. You don’t need to change a THING. 😛

Thanks again everyone. That was a great event. Looks like I’m missing October but I hope to see you at TDS (if I qualify!).

Thanks LNC. I ended up buying the compact 1.5-ton jack for $70 (after coupon). As long as it fits under my lowered car it should be good enough for changing wheels/camber.

The first time I have to crawl under my car I imagine I’ll convince myself that I need a bigger one, in which case it looks like I’ll have to choose between the medium sized 3-ton and the longer 2-ton jacks.

Thanks Jeff and Rob. I’ll go with the cheapo HF 1.5-ton jack. It’ll be good for getting the wheels off and/or camber adjusted. If I find myself needing to get the car higher off the ground I’ll look into the 24″ jack.

I already have some good stands. Definitely did NOT want to compromise there. I put the car on the stands and basically body check it to make sure it’s probably not gonna fall off while I’m under there.

    Thanks again guys!

I’m surprised how many people are saying they had a hard time. I guess I just had an “on” day.

I was even on-er during our fun runs. Being a passenger with Dave and Jeff C. and Matt showed me where I could have improved. I beat my official time FOUR TIMES during the fun runs! 😛

A big Thank You to everyone who made this possible!! Jeff, Jack, Roger, Ryan, Dave, Brian, Michael and everyone! There were a TON of people but we still had a bunch of runs AND fun runs. Things went smoothly, no one got hurt, no cars got hurt (at least as far as I saw), and everyone had a ton of fun. It was a great course and a great day. Thanks again everyone! Can’t wait to do it again next month.

Ooh I like. Looks like a long course, too.

How much do you want to bet that we have to add a chicane or something to slow down that straightaway on the left? 😛 That’s a looong stretch to top out 2nd before some fun twisties! :cheer:
