Air Bag Recall

This is probably preaching to the choir but did everyone see the news about the air bag recall. Last nights evening news programs talked about it and it sounds serious as in shrapnel being fired at your face if the airbag goes off. There have been four deaths and numerous injuries. The link for the list of affected vehicles is http://www.nhtsa.gov For our favorite German car the list is 3 series 2000-2006. The part was made by a company in Japan. And we all thought our cars were pure German.

This airbag recall has been popping up in the news from time to time for months. IIRC, BMW announced it back in July or so and supposedly sent out notifications to the owners of affected cars. I remember seeing the announcement in the CCA weekly e-newsletter and also in the Roundel a couple of issues ago.

It’ll be interesting to see how this recall develops as more and more cars get drawn into it. The manufacturer is reportedly having trouble keeping up with demand for replacement units, with some people being denied appointments to have the work done because of lack of stock.
