Hi Folks –
I’ve been working with Marina and others within the club to get our 2013 schedule together. Here’s what I’m working on at this point. Open discussion is good… so have at it!

——————————————————————
January TBD – Autocross Staff Meeting DONE!
Staff, coaches, and volunteers will meet for a 2012 season retrospective and brainstorming session for 2013.

Saturday January 19 – Marina – AX Course Rewind Fun Event DONE!
We had some great courses last season so we’d like to bring one back and have an open practice/fun run day to fill in the long break until our first official event. We’ll post links to all of the 2012 courses and take a poll of which one you’d like to run again.

Saturday February 23 – Marina – Test & Tune DONE!
This is an opportunity to break in your new tires or tweak that new suspension you put on over the winter. It’s also a great time to get more driving practice on the short course and work on your smoothness on the Figure-8. We will limit attendance to 50 cars – additional drivers sharing a car will register at a reduced rate.

Saturday April 6 – Candlestick – CCC DONE!
Car Control Clinic – original formula.

Sunday April 7 – Candlestick – AX Fun Run/Practice Event DONE!
This event is intended to follow CCC to provide more practice in a non-compete environment. Details to follow, but I think we’ll run this like a regular event with run groups and keep it open to the full 100 participants we usually have, minus the competition aspect so new folks can feel more comfortable.

Saturday April 20 – Marina – AX1 DONE!
2013 Season Opener at Marina. Smoke’em (tires!) if ya gottem’!

Saturday May 4 – Candlestick – Advanced Car Control Clinic SOLD OUT!
New program under development… curriculum TBD.

Saturday May 25- Marina – AX2 DONE!

Saturday June 15 – Marina – AX3 DONE!

Saturday July 13 – Marina – AX4 REGISTER!

Saturday August 10 – Marina – AX5 REGISTER!

August 19-24 – BMW CCA Oktoberfest 2013 at Laguna Seca
Autocross events will be Thursday 8/22 and Friday 8/23 in the Laguna paddock. This event is hosted by BMWCCA National and the Pacific Region – not GGC.

Saturday September 14 – Marina – AX6 REGISTER!

Saturday October 12 – Marina – AX7 REGISTER!

Saturday November 2 – Marina TDS INVITE ONLY
Just as 2012, this is the day the time falls back so we’ll have plenty of daylight to get thru the program.

That schedule looks great! The January event sounds like fun, and August is going to be crazy-busy! There are going to be multiple one-day HDPEs at Laguna Seca too during the Oktoberfest for those who are so inclined.

For the March TnT, I’m torn. I wouldn’t mind the extra cost (and driving space) of Candlestick, but I hate that surface.

Looking forward to 2013 for sure!

Well, I just learned Marina is not available on 3/31. The calendar really filled up since I last saw it.

Moved the January event to the 19th so it does not conflict with Dyno Day on the 26th.

I’m not convinced that testing and tuning at Candlestick is really worth anything due to the surface. I don’t think the car behaves there the way it behaves anywhere else. I would rather see an autocross there and a Test and Tune at Marina.

Can’t wait for the 2013 season. The January run with a 2012 course is a great idea!

We’ve recognized a need for an offering between the safety school format of CCC and more advanced driving events like autocross and HPDE.

I’ve learned from talking with lots of people that one barrier to getting started with autocross is the competition element. Some folks are apprehensive for whatever reason, so we are taking a shot at easing their concerns with an advanced training course on Saturday and open practice day on Sunday. The hope is this segment of our members will come to both and ease some of their apprehension so they will get active with our autocross program, and HPDE.

We think it will be a winner weekend!

Sunday at Candlestick could be tough—it’s Easter Sunday.

Sheesh! I thought it was always in April! Thanks for pointing that out.

I have a planning meeting in a couple of weeks and will reevaluate March with CCC.

Hey Jeff,
If I am going to pay $120 for 7 minutes of fame I had better be sitting an an F 16. I think increasing the total count is the better option. Just my 2 cents. 😛

Hey Jeff,
I realize Jan.19 is a noncompete event but just a couple of questions.
1 Do we need to bring our numbers?
2 Are we going to have assigned run groups and therefore stickers?
If you already have planned your usual e-mail prior to the event (which I actually read by the way)
then don’t bother answering this post.

Thanks Tony. As a practice/fun-run event we usually try to keep the count down so folks can get more driving in. But, given that Candlestick costs twice as much as Marina, we need to figure something out so we come close to breaking even. We’ve been subsidizing Candlestick and TDS so we can give you guys what you want. The easy solution is drop Candlestick and disappoint the folks who enjoy coming, but I really don’t want to do that. For some it’s their only event with us each year and I know people look forward to it.

I’m thinking $60 for this one plus $5 for optional lunch. We run it like a regular event: max it out at 100 paid folks, individual run groups, maybe not a 90s course, but long enough so we can get 3 cars out at once. This will let us move thru the rotation faster.

Also, since March 30 is Easter this year (Easter in March?) we changed the weekend to April 6/7 for a back-to-back with Car Control. If history dictates, this will be a sold out weekend for both programs and we’ll have a lot of fun at The Stick.

Does that seem doable?

Hi Tim –
Still thinking about it actually. We discussed at our meeting the other night and seem to be leaning towards a TDS style… two groups, both run in the morning, lunch break, both run again in the afternoon.

Numbers would be optional, no classification needed, no need for trailer or comms workers, just cone shaggers and flaggers, starter, maybe timeslips if someone wants to do it.

How’s that sound?

Jeff,
Sounds ok to me. If no one else wants to do it I can volunteer to hand out time slips for the runs that I am not driving.
